a t e a m ! 2003 Season has WILDTHINGS as
victors in Play Offs.
Picture on left: Front
row: Tammy, Leann, Louise, Lisa and Andrea; back row:
Mistie, Scottie, Sue, Diane, Suzanne, B.L., Judee and Kim.
Picture on Right: Andrea
called out at un-named base, as FORUM notes, "despite photographic evidence
to the contrary" in "nail biter" victory in the bottom of the seventh (the
last) inning.
(A later report to this WEBpage indicates
that it was SECOND BASE and Andrea's speed pulled her over the base so
although she beat the throw, she was tagged out when her foot left the
base.) Since I wasn't there, I think I'd like to keep on thinking
that Andrea just beat the throw!!! Despite the questionable "tag"
line...this was such a great story by Rocco, we'll summarize it for you
(his words in quotes)!
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME PLAY-BY-PLAY
FROM E-FIELDER (borrowed from FORUM report):
It is Thursday, August 7, 2003.
WILDTHINGS are undefeated in the championship round of contests (double-elimination
variety). We're the home team (if there was a coin toss, great call
of the toss guys!) so we will get last licks. Weed Wackers, the defending
champs go around the order in the top of inning one.
OK gang, so we're behind by just
11 runs after their first at bat. Do WILDTHINGS see this as a negative
omen? No way!!! We get up and score 13 runs in the bottom of
the first. Back and forth the lead swings..."it was anybody's game"
according to the FORUM. Weed Wackers held the lead at 19-18 from
the fifth inning until the closing stanza. This means tight defense
in the clutch for both teams.
Coming up for our last try, it was
do or die. Again, thanks to being home team, WILDTHINGS got that
chance to win in the bottom of the seventh. WILDTHINGS know what
to do with dramatic moments like this! "With two on and no out Andrea
Cardiff's double brought in B.L. Cardiff and Suzanne England (the tying
and winning runs)..." and we're the Champions 2003.

the FORUM, this game has qualities of high drama and ultimate victory!
August 7,
2003 F I N A L - WILDTHINGS close it out

FINALLY
WE GOT TO PLAY BALL...AND WE WON ...G R E A T G A M E

T O W E E D W A C K E R S !
Wild Things
won the final game 20-19 - Thursday the 7th. Thanks to LAX-TRUAX,
our sponsors, and now we can celebrate a VERY WET season that ended with
us high and dry at the top! FULL STORY HERE.
WILDTHINGS
scheduled to play the winner of the Peter's v. Weed Wackers on the North
House field...Thursday, August 7.
WACKY WEDNESDAY: Wednesday August 6 was a strange one
between Peter's and Weed Wackers, for a number of reasons.
TYPHOON TUESDAY:
Guess what? Tuesday was called off...
STORM CLOUDS LOOM: August 4 (Monday night's) playoff between
Peter's & Weed Wackers was called due to the rain.
Peter's Spirits v. WILDTHINGS (above)

WILD THINGS
WIN AGAINST PETERS SPIRITS!!! Y E S ! ! !
It was a good
game July 31st; against the 1st place team the final score was 8-6. We
were the home team & we had outstanding defensive play from everyone.
Weaser caught 2 pop ups at the plate & Mistie made some throws &
Stacey did her usual lasar light throws to 1st base. The field consisted
of Leann, Judee, Diane & Mary & they were tight as a drum--almost
NOTHING got by, through or over. From the infield view, this is always
a relief!!! What a great feeling!
So what now?
No game for
us on Friday (still in "winner's bracket") - we are next scheduled to play
on Monday on the North House field for all the marbles. Since we
are the only undefeated team left in 2003 playoffs, the next game is our
last if we win (now scheduled for Monday)! The winner of this kind
of double-elimination tournament is the team that didn't lose TWICE.
NOTE:
it started to rain for Friday, and as must be evident, as noted in more
recent reports above, FINALS put back further and further...a few more
storms and we might have been playing the last game as school bells rang
in the new year of class!
Round One for us...
Having defeated
Columbus Gym, 20-8, we now progress to Thursday, July 31st for our next
game. For Thursday: fasten your seat belts...it is against
the ever dangerous Peter's Spirits on the super sunny, no water, no seats,
no shade (ever popular) Middle School field. For your information:
Peters beat Weed Wackers on Tuesday.
STATUS
REPORT:
We are in
second place (behind Peter's Spirits) For Wild Things, two losses
only...Peter's beat us twice. Objectively speaking, the second
loss was a big improvement (it was close and we hit!!!).
BREAKING
NEWS...in our opinion, (armchair umpire variety) Stacey beat the tag (above),
so we should be tied for first place--but then, does it really matter in
the end (we can still win it all in the playoffs)!
Parks and
Rec announced (mid-day Wednesday) we are in 2nd place; Peter's is 1st &
the rest are "to be determined" after examining scorebooks.
WILDTHINGS
will be playing on the North House field on Tuesday, July 29th against
whichever team wins the Monday game, which is 3rd vs. 6th. If you
cannot make it to this Tuesday game next week, please let Lisa know so
she can figure it into the lineup. Have a great weekend!
AND FOR
AN ENCORE...
A good game
with Weed Wackers to beat them 20-11. It was fun (always is with them--really
nice team!) & although we hit - it was NOWHERE near the slug fest of
Tuesday night (see below). Next game is Monday (July 21) on the North House
field with the ever dangerous and powerful Peter's Spirits, followed by
Tuesday with Jailbirds on the Middle School field.
PITCHING
DUEL GOES OUR WAY!!!
Incredible
game Tuesday July 15 against Columbus Gym. A real "pitcher's duel"...we
were up first & immediately brought in 13 - yes, 13 runs. It
was phenomenol. Then, Columbus Gym returned part of the favor--they got
up & brought in 7...and on it went! Stacey had three - count them -
three home runs - one a grand slam & Andrea had 2 three base hits -
that's why they call us WILD THINGS I guess...we were all hitting. The
game came down to the final inning & we were ahead by 1 run. Tammy
caught all three of their pop ups & that was the game - 22-21! Great
ball.
WILD THINGS
do not get past opponent Monday, July 7...but below see Tammy in heads-up
play against Women's Slow-Pitch Champs Weed Wackers.
