PHOTOGRAPHS AND COMMENTARY BELOW NOT OFFICIAL
Photos for the Town Plan 2000 - update due 2010.
Please note that the work of Phyllis Gary, black-and-white Weston professional photographer was used when the final publishing product was mailed to all Weston homes...in black and white as well as color below, please find ABOUT WESTON @two dozen "snapshots" of places and events that epitomize Weston...things that have changed since 1987, when the last update of the Town Plan was produced are highlighted below.

#1 - The ONION BARN was re-sided since the last Town Plan update...local controversy took place in the 1990's surrounding its use, first, for no political signage, and then later, after the siding was replaced, for continuation of the ONION BARN itself being the location for postings.
#2 - The RECYCLING CENTER operation (new) at the TRANSFER STATION is shown...

#3 - No, this is not Thomas Hardy countryside...it is Weston's own Landfill.  Some uses have been considered for this high spot off Godfrey Road (the landfilled section of the "dump")...such as playing fields, bus storage and garage - you name it!  And now it is scheduled as the home to cell tower #2...

#4 - WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE, NOR ANY DROP TO DRINK (AS THE DROUGHT GOES ON)?  This stream fronts the landfill site...
#5a - Will this reservoir ever be drained and sold off for development? Should "Little Egypt"--the former village that was flooded for the Saugatuck Reservoir construction be made into an historic district? Weston's version of Atlantis?  As the level drops, some ask why...
#5b - A man-made pond on Jennings Brook watershed is the last view on the right--another mysterious "village" here?

#6 - On the left, the Board of Education Central Offices (built in the 1990's)...and on the right, WestonArts logo
#7a - Centerpiece of the first school construction project is now full-to-standard capacity Hurlbutt Library (built at the same time as the Central Office structure). Both buildings were needed to house uses and staff required to service the children of Weston...#7b second from the right is Nov. 15, 2001 "map" sent to all homes prior to Referendum vote...link to School Building Committee for more on this subject.

#8 - And speaking of the children of Weston...children make Weston the special place that it is...here is the future of the Weston High School football program!

[IMAGE][IMAGE]
#9 - #10 - Weston has a volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Rescue Squad.  Shown above are the two Fire Houses in Weston--the first is on the east side, the second, and "main" fire house is on the west side, next to Town Hall. Please note the small structure on the left of this photo--it was relocated to this spot to make room for the Town's first cellular communication tower...

#11 - #12 - This is WESTON SHOPPING CENTER in 1999...note the SUV's...and a close-up of the Market...who shops in the MARKET? We all are thankfull to be able to pick up that one missing ingredient or a gallon of gasoline...or mail a letter (that we forgot to do while doing major shopping elsewhere)...

[IMAGE][IMAGE]
#13 - #14 - A modest new house and a venerable old one are shown here...

#15 - And the Jarvis Military Academy (someday the future home of a cultural center, perhaps)...
#16a. #16b - coupled with what Westonites still put high on their community priority list...open space...the Juliana Lachat Preserve...and potential Nature Center/Conservation education site (retaining these views?)...

#17a, #17b and #17c- Norfield Church, in the center of Town, and Emmanuel Church, on the east side of Town, host fairs very popular for their seasonal charm, on the one hand, and rustic nature, on the other!  St. Francis (on the right) is the newest of the churches in Weston.

[IMAGE][IMAGE]
#18 is of the Saugatuck Reservoir...#19a is of the Samuel Senior Dam (at the southern end of the Saugatuck Reservoir)...and #19b, from the north, in Redding, a photograph by Joan Lewis of the low level of water in the Saugatuck.  At times you can walk out to the foundations of old buildings flooded in the earlier part of the 20th Century in order to allow the Saugatuck Reservoir to be created.  At right, looking north to Redding, drought officially over!

#20 is an historic house. #21 This functioning barn is nextdoor to...

[IMAGE][IMAGE]
#22 a new neighbor!  #23 The DPW Garage has been improved since the last Town Plan...and is the site for a Regional Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day held in Weston, perhaps planned for the Spring of next year (?)

#24 another view of Town Hall!  Click on Town Hall for "CivicRADAR" and other links...
