While being snowed in can be confining, barn windows viewed from the road are not exactly welcoming.


     
Sometimes looking out is easier and more refreshing than trying to see inside a formal institution.

      
Looking in in the nighttime can be spooky.

     
Doors do have "window panes" but they are there to discover who is seeking entry...no looking inside at Town Hall side entrance.


      
We should mention that while neither window nor door, a staircase can be considered an "opening" too.  Whether at the 68th Street subway station or at a then-new Metro stop in Paris!
