WILD THINGS 2004 TEAM PICTURE (minus Andrea, who was on her honeymoon in Iceland).
The playoff story and 2004 season schedule (results).

Front Row (left to right): Louise, Virginia, Margaret, Tammy, Delana, Lisa, Mistie, Tucker (will play next year if he can be taught to wear an aqua shirt and a cap), Kim, Judee, Eileen;  Back Row (left to right): Nancy, Diane D., B.L., Sue, Diane K., Stacey, Scotty.
Missing from this photo:  Besides Andrea, who was on her honeymoon, Janet and Rachel also not in the picture.  Scotty's dog was camera-shy.

And in the Thursday, August 12, 2004 Weston FORUM, the story (official) of the final games went like this...

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY BY E-FIELDER: WILD THINGS LOSE FRIDAY AND ARE DONE FOR THIS YEAR...GAME SAGA HERE:

There were now only two (2) teams left in the playoffs.  The double-elimination format is like the Olympics.  There is a winners bracket and a losers bracket.  If you lose twice you are out.  WILD THINGS never say die, and we went down with a fight and never gave up (we almost pulled off a remarkable upset on Friday August 6th).  And so we will have to say, like the old Brooklyn Dodgers, "wait 'til next year."

THE FINAL RESULT...

Monday August 9th Peter's Spirits took the field against the mighty Columbus Gym (only UNDEFEATED team in the playoffs after Columbus Gym's Thursday's victory over Peter's Spirits in extra innings)...and Columbus Gym run-ruled them this time.  So Columbus Gym is the Championship Team in Weston Women's Slow Pitch Softball for 2004 (we were the defending champs from 2003).

Read the Weston Forum version again about our exciting Friday game!!!

PLAYOFF SCHEDULE - SEEDINGS HERE.
DATE             North House                   Onion Barn

Mon. Aug. 2   #1.3rd v. 6th                   #2. 4th v. 5th
           WILD THINGS win game #1
GAME SUMMARY:
It was hot Monday, August 2nd, as the Weston Women's Slow-Pitch Softball double-elimination playoffs began.  WILD THINGS defeated WEED WACKERS 15-10 in a very well played game by both teams--a game worthy of the competition format.  Everyone came with their hitting shoes on!  No sloppy play.  WILD THINGS highlights too numerous to mention!  And everyone on the team got in the game and contributed!!!

Tues. Aug 3   #3.2nd v. Winner 1           #4. 1st v. Winner 2
Wild Things lose game #3 (one win, one loss--we are now in the "losers bracket" and play Wednesday in game #6)
GAME SUMMARY:
WILD THINGS play Columbus Gym, North House field.  We got only two runs from top Columbus Gym squad.  It was hot again, but we played well and so did Columbus Gym.  Their hits dropped and our's didn't.  As they say, that's the way the ball bounces!!!  Catch the terrific Scott Mullen photo from FORUM below to check out Stacey's laser throw to Tammy to, in my opinion, nip Columbus Gym runner.  The umpire didn't agree with my view of this play.  On to the next contest!!!  (Nothing like doing things the hard way!!!)

Below is the picture from August 12 FORUM showing an early inning play.  We got bombed even though we really didn't play that badly--when things go wrong for the Wild Things, Tucker is sad (see photo at top of this page).

Wed. Aug 4    5. Loser 1 v. Loser 4        #6. Loser 2 v. Loser 3
WILD THINGS win, 6-3 in game #6
GAME SUMMARY:
How could we lose tonight--team theme song original version played loud and clear (causing this new generation of WILD THINGS to gaze around wondering "So what the heck was that???")  WILD THINGS made every opportunity count--but wouldn't you know, it was the long ball that made the difference late...Mistie bombed a triple and Tammy went for the circuit to nail down the victory.  Game #6 thus went to...WILD THINGS (avenging a painfull one-run loss the other week to the up-and-coming Jail Birds).

Thurs. Aug 5   #7. Winner 5 v. Winner 6    8. Winner 3 v. Winner 4
WILD THINGS win, 10-6 in game #7
GAME SUMMARY:
WILD THINGS got to play the winner of game #5 (Weed Wackers) on Thursday.  Parks&Rec said field was OK after heavy rains Wednesday night...and it was.  We were "visiting team" and did not have last ups this time...Weed Wackers made the most of this, staging a rally in the bottom of the 7th inning (of a 7 inning game), but falling short--WILDTHINGS steady hitting, slick fielding and GREAT pitching held together and so we get to the Friday game against one of the two teams that had the best record and performed, so far in the playoffs, up to their ranking!

Fri. Aug 6      #9.  Winner 7 v. Loser 8
               Wild Things lose 12-11.
GAME SUMMARY:
Playing above our heads, Wild Things had nothing to be ashamed of in this loss!!!  We scrapped and covered for each other, made great saves and hit in a timely fashion.  Tammy came through with a grand slam home run in the top of the 7th to put us ahead (we had a big inning going), and so we entered the bottom of the 7th (and last regulation inning) ahead by two runs (never enough runs ahead when you are not the "home team"!!!) having to hold Peter's Spirits.  We could not do it on this day, but we tried our very best.  Lisa pitched brilliantly and was very proud of her team.  And frankly, considering that we had lost to Peter's twice this season by scores of 14-1 and 14-2, this was a truly remarkable performance by the Wild Things on a cool summer's evening.  And the umpires were great!

Mon. Aug 9    10. Winner 8 v. Winner 9
Peter's Spirits advanced to play Columbus Gym Monday at the Onion Barn Field for the championship--Peter's got run-ruled, suffering their second loss (both to Columbus Gym) and Wild Things say "congratulations to the winners in 2004!!!"

Tues. Aug 10  11. Winner 10 v. Loser 10 – it wasn't necessary.
